The Woodlands High School Named a Top U.S. High School

The Woodlands High School (TWHS) has been recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top 500 public high schools in the nation. Schools were ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Matthews who used the number of Advanced Placement (AP) Tests, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge Tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors. According to Newsweek , “AP and IB participation are indicators of a school's efforts to get students to excel and prepare for college.”
TWHS is home to some 3,542 students and serves students on two campuses; a ninth grade campus and one housing grades 10-12. The school has previously been on the Newsweek Top High School list in 2003, 2005 and 2006. “We are very pleased to be recognized as one of the top schools in the United States,” said Principal Gregg Colschen. “Academic success has always been an important goal for our students. We encourage students to challenge themselves by taking rigorous courses throughout their high school career. This recognition is evidence that students are meeting the challenge.”
